The comment made about Nigeria as being a ‘fantastically corrupt’ country by the UK prime minister, David Cameron has been met with harsh criticism.

The news about the British prime minister describing Nigeria as a corrupt nation went viral immediately afterwards but the presidency is not taking it likely with the United Kingdom government.

According Premium Times, a press statement issued by Shehu Garba, President Buhari’s spokesperson, described the comment as one which was very embarrassing, especially in the wake of the anti-corruption war in the country.

This is embarrassing to us, to us say the least, given the good work that the President is doing.

“The eyes of the world are on what is happening here,” the statement read, adding that “the Prime Minister must be looking at an old snapshot of Nigeria. Things are changing with corruption and everything else.”

Buhari’s spokesperson however, commended the remarks made by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who stated vehemently that Nigeria’s present leader is not a corrupt one.

The statement read: “Thank you to the Archbishop. We have great admiration for the good relationship between our two countries.”

This report is coming just hours after President Buhari left the shores of the country for London where he is expected to attend an anti-corruption summit with several other heads of state.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have also taken to the social media to express their disappointment over the unruly comments made by the British PM.

Nigerians as well as British citizens who were enraged by the comments made by the respected world figure, are now accusing him of being corrupt himself.
